Sandstone Design Wall Tiles - To replicate buildings common in the mid 1800s. These series of 5 different suzed panels are pressed to duplicate the shape of the quarried sandstone blocks which were used to build most of the major public buildings and retaining walls around Sydney. Sydney and Adelaide are built on solid sandstone and this material was the most readily available material for both public and residential buildings during the 19th and early 20th century. As labour and freight costs became prohibitive for some early in the 1900s there was a demand for pressed metal impressions of sandstone blocks to build domestic buildings especially in areas where the sandstone was too hard to come by. Wunderlite was commissioned by an insurance company to duplicate the blocks designs to repair such a house in the Hunter Valley in 1998 and these dies are available to those who would like to create a sandstone impression on a house extension or other buuildings, or for a retaining wall or garden fence. We use drawing quality galvanised iron for these blocks for longevity and durability. They are ideally nailed onto hard wood framing and sprayed from the inside with foam insulation. This results in a sound proofed and insulated cladding which can be painted to resemble the genuine sandstone block which nowadays are impossible to procure at any reasonable price.
